AIB Speaks On ‘Free Basics’ : Something We All Should Know Before Signing Anything
But What is Free Basics?
Free Basics is an initiative that aims at extending internet usage in developing countries. It claims to give people free access to vital services like communication, health, education, job, farming, etc. Facebook says:
"It helps those who can't afford to pay for data, or who need a little help getting started online. And it’s open to all people, developers and mobile operators."
So far so good! But there is something that Facebook doesn't want you to know. Something that we were fighting for, a few months back. Yes, Net Neutrality. Free Basics violates the principals of Net Neutrality that clearly states:
"Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites."
AIB has come up with a new video on Save the Internet to tell us what exactly is going on and it is bang on target. Let's check out what they have to say on the issue.
